June 2016 Excerpt

How do you communicate with residents and their families after harm has occurred?

Despite the best efforts of healthcare facilities and healthcare professionals, about 1 in 10 people is harmed by the care they receive. Ineffective communication afterwards can leave residents and families to wonder what happened and possibly seek legal action to find answers.

The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) has released "CANDOR," a new online toolkit, to promote candid, empathetic communication and timely resolution after a harm event.
