Family Caregivers

More than 1 in 4 Idahoans

and

nearly 1 in 5 Washingtonians

are unpaid family caregivers.

Family caregivers can prevent or delay the need for costly institutional care, maximize independence, and keep families together.

It is important to note, however, that caregivers themselves are at risk for illness because of the stress related to this demanding task.

Caregivers must care for themselves and seek help when needed. Central supports include the Idaho Caregiver Alliance and the Washington ALTA Caregiver Resources.

To protect your own health, see these tips for staying up-to-date with immunizations, keeping track of medications, and quitting smoking.
